FESTIVE HOT CHOCOLATE: A recipe, with a twist

Hot Chocolate has always been celebrated as a delicious and reliable wintery treat. This season, it is time to put a twist on this classic drink. Instead of buying the same ole’ hot chocolate at the usual café, home-made gourmet hot chocolate is not only tastier but a lot more cost effective. To begin, make sure you have the two key ingredients of your favorite hot cocoa powder and some milk. We suggest using Ghirardelli hot cocoa powder for a rich flavor and whole milk to add to the creamy deliciousness. If it is not sweet enough for your sugar craving, try adding half and half, a little more sugar, and a pinch of salt. The directions are as simple as putting the ingredients together in a pot over the stove, but do not bring it to a boil. Now for the fun part! Substitute or add ingredients to this treat for a special twist. Cocoa powder actually comes in a variety of flavors, ranging from butterscotch, to Mexican spice, to almond, to peppermint. Instead of grabbing the usual marshmallows to sprinkle on top, try butterscotch chips, chopped hazelnuts, crushed peppermint candies, and even a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Don’t just grab a regular spoon to stir in your ingredients, stir in style with a cinnamon stick, a candy cane, or even a chocolate spoon. Let your right brain explore the realm of hot chocolate during a study break and whip together a delectable mug of hot chocolate without even taking off your pajamas.
