FACTS & FIGURES #12: For the Love of His Beans
A classic Easter sweet for Americans, jelly beans are overrunning the shelves at grocery stores this time of year. But the Easter Bunny isn’t the only one associated with these colorful candies- former President Ronald Reagan was a well-known jelly bean enthusiast. During his term as Governor of California, Reagan once wrote, “We can hardly start a meeting or make a decision without passing around the jar of jelly beans.” The Republican President believed you can gain a great deal of insight on an individual’s personality from observing whether he or she arbitrarily grabs a handful of beans or meticulously rummages the jar for a particular flavor. Reagan’s top bean? Black licorice. So that indicates…well, history’s bias has colored those interpretations.
